Doughty wrote a thesis for her M.S. from Iowa State College (1941) entitled, Test methods for range ovens. I, Effect on performance of varying the food load in an oven using baking powder biscuits. The house, built ca. 1865, was bought by her father, Wilkinson Doughty (d. 1909) in 1869. He was an early hardware and drygoods merchant, town trustee, and founder of Central Michigan University. Cumming, born in Mass. in 1915, served as Director of the Clarke Historical Library at CMU, 1961-1982. He was an early member and president of the Michigan Archival Association. He earned degrees from Eastern Michigan University and attended Wayne State University and Michigan State University.
